“McDonald’s Corporation is much more than burgers and fries.  Despite the economic plunge McDonald’s remains a stable powerful competitor in the fast food service business.  Having the opportunity to partake in the golden arches of success has been more than rewarding.  As an intern in the Multi-cultural marketing department, I have worked on projects focused on the McDonald’s brand as it relates to the Asian, Hispanic, and African American consumer.  My days consisted of deciding on the positioning of new menu items to the three ethnicities.  One example includes the new “third pounders” and the print advertising for the Asian consumer market.  It may sound easy, take a picture of a burger say I’m lovin it and put it in Chinatown.  But imagine thinking of a unique way to advertise burgers and then translate that to Chinese, Filipino, and Vietnamese! Talk about lost in translation! Although sometimes challenging, my internship taught me the importance of teamwork, initiative, and a positive attitude. Without the team within my dept I would have never known how to appeal to the Asian consumer, without my own initiative.  I would have not had the opportunity to work on projects that elevate my professional development and without a positive attitude I would have never been able to get through the rough days. I met amazing people and developed genuine lasting relationships. I sincerely thank the Louis Carr Internship Foundation for their insight and commitment to the professional development of our community and our generation. Without the foundation I would have never been here to say…. I’m lovin it!” -Martice Sutton, Spelman College, Atlanta, GA
