“First of all, I would like to say that students with internship experience are more marketable and likely to land a good paying job that could possibly lead to a lucrative career. For an internship can provide its participants valuable exposure to life after graduating college. Based on the article entitled “True Value of an Internship,” written by Penny Loretto, she stated that “I think its important for students to understand the importance summer internships play in career decision-making and future job searches after college.” I think that not only summer internships are critical to graduating students entering into the workforce, but any type of internship can prove invaluable to college student’s chances of making the transition from college to “the real world” that involves working for a living.
Thus, I feel that I’m very privilege to have landed an internship with the top cable station in the country-BET. I feel that now I can go anywhere with BET on my resume and say “this is the reason why I should be hired!” For my experiences here at BET have been priceless. I mean from learning office culture, the business of sales and advertising, software that regulates the business, the language that one must utilize while engaging in conversation about this business, the managing of revenue generated from advertising, the different media outlets that are available, how to conduct oneself during and after a presentation, the importance of paying attention to detail, etc. Yet, my most memorable experience here at BET is the fact I had the chance to learn valuable skills that are not taught in school. I would like to say to BET-thanks!!!!” -Demetrius Porter, Chicago State University, Chicago, IL
